Reiatsu — The Foundation

Reiatsu (Spiritual Pressure) is the energy all supernatural beings emit. High Reiatsu can physically crush weaker beings just by being in their presence. Measuring someone's Reiatsu gives a rough sense of their power — but technique and ability often matter more than raw output.

Shinigami — Soul Reapers

Shinigami use Zanpakuto — swords that are extensions of their soul. Each Zanpakuto has a spirit with a name. Learning the name unlocks Shikai (first release). Mastering and materializing the spirit unlocks Bankai (second release). Shinigami also use Kido — spell-based combat techniques split into Bakudo (binding) and Hado (destruction).

Hollows & Arrancar

Hollows are corrupted souls who lost their heart. Arrancar are Hollows who removed their masks to gain Shinigami-like powers — including a Zanpakuto and a Resurrecion (their equivalent of Bankai). Espada are the ten most powerful Arrancar, numbered by power.

Quincy — The Counterbalance

Quincy absorb Reishi (spirit particles) from the environment and shape it into weapons — primarily bows and arrows. Unlike Shinigami who purify Hollows, Quincy destroy them completely, which disrupts the soul cycle balance. Quincy also have Vollstanding — their ultimate form equivalent to Bankai — and Schrift letters granted by Yhwach.
