Keiko Tanaka discovered anime through her mother's collection of 90s VHS tapes and has never looked back. She specializes in the darker, more mature end of the medium — the stories that use animation to explore violence, mortality, moral complexity, and the full range of human experience. Her analyses of Berserk, Attack on Titan, and Vinland Saga are informed by her academic background in philosophy and literary theory.
Keiko believes the "dark anime" label is often a disservice to series that are fundamentally about hope — finding it, losing it, and the struggle to hold on. Her writing focuses on what these stories mean, not just what happens in them. She has been writing about anime for fan communities since 2011.
